Handheld computer technologies
in community service/volunteering/advocacy
version: October 2001
This information was compiled in 2001 by Jayne Cravens when she was part of United Nations Information Technology Service (UNITeS), an initiative of the Secretary General at the United Nations Development Programme and UN Volunteers. It anticipated the popularity of smart phones and apps4good, talking about these concepts long before they had these names.
It presents examples of volunteers/citizens/grass roots advocates using handheld computer/personal digital assistants (PDAs) or phone devices as part of community service/volunteering/advocacy, or examples that could be applied to volunteer settings. Also included here is a section on Advocacy, and Online Software Directories for Handhelds.
